BioResearch Ireland Signs Research\nAgreement With US Company, Inhibitex BioResearch Ireland (BRI), the\nnational agency commercialising biotechnology, recently announced that\nit has signed an exclusive licensing and research agreement with\nInhibitex, Inc., A US biopharmaceutical company. The agreement focuses\non the prevention and treatment of infections by Staphylococcus aureus,\na bacterium which causes skin and wound infections and is a major cause\nof hospital acquired infections worldwide. In cases, where the pathogen\nhas developed resistance to antibiotics, it can cause life threatening\nsepticaemia. Forty percent of all deaths from hospital acquired\ninfections are caused by Staphylococcal infections.
