Environmental pollution in water environments is one of the serious problems that the world has been facing in recent years, from the most diverse sources, including industrial and domestic discharges, urbanization and the use of pesticides in agriculture. The objective of this work was to environmentally evaluate water and sediment through physical-chemical analysis, mathematical indexes and the effects of the metals present. Samples of water and sediment were collected from 12 streams belonging to the sub-basins of the river basins of the Ivaí and Pirapó rivers, in March 2020. To assess the quality of the sediment, the geoaccumulation index, contamination factor, enrichment and risk factor were used ecological through TEL and PEL values. To assess water quality, the Canadian WQI-CCME index was used and compared to the Maximum Allowable Values (VMP) by CONAMA Resolution 357/2005. The results for sediment showed that anthropogenic activities of economic and social development in the Maringá-PR region may have caused geoaccumulation of the metal Cu, Cr and Zn in a significant amount, with an average concentration of 237.63 mg/kg, 137.29 mg /kg and 100.22 mg/kg respectively for all 1st and 2nd order streams, as well as the metals Pb, Ni, Zn, Cd. As a result of the contamination factors, copper pollution may have been mainly caused by agriculture, industrialization, and naturally by the basaltic formation present in the region where the streams are located. Chromium due to industrial residues, due to the presence of food and steel industries in the region of Maringá. The water quality index allowed us to conclude that the water is considered from excellent to good from the collected points. Although the sample from the Guaiapó stream was considered the only regular with a value of 76.5, due to the concentration of copper, nitrogen and phosphorus having exceeded its maximum allowed value. The WQI-CCME index presented itself as an excellent tool to assess the quality of water in water bodies with different characteristics, making it possible to study the proper treatment needed for each stream.
