Baden, Ontario's former Livingston Presbyterian Church, located at 44 Beck Street at Mill Street, served as Wilmot Township's only Presbyterian Church from 1895 until its congregation disbanded, with the Service of Dissolution on June 27, 2021. The Presbytery of Waterloo-Wellington took possession of the congregational records. More recently, the Gothic Revival building became the home of Baden Central Church (in association with Fellowship Bible Church, New Hamburg). in 1895, James Livingston (1838-1920), a Scottish emigre and prominent local industrial (J. & J. Livingston Linseed Oil Co.), donated the land and much of the funding for the building's $2,180 construction, with an additional $1,400 funding by fifty other congregants. His family's other donations included the memorial stained glass windows, baptismal font and the organ. An engraved stone plaque above its west facade Mill Street entrance states: 'Livingston Presbyterian Church, 1890-1934." (The west side addition opened in 1935.) Two commemorative plaques are mounted at the south facade Beck Street main entrance: "Plantings and Railings by the Congregation in Loving Memory of Ethel Ritchie and in Celebration of Our Centennial May, 1990." and "Entrance-way Restoration Dedicated to the Blessed Memory of Edwin J. Fergusson Servant-Leader, Organist, Choir-Master, By the Congregation, His Family and Friends. 1990." James Livingston was a Freemason (33 rd Degree of the Scottish Rite, 1887) and a charter member of Wilmot Lodge No. 318, which moved its location from the Baden Hotel in 1951 to the church’s second storey. On June 7, 2018, Wilmot Township design ate d the building as a heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act.
