No man is an island, and while the vast majority of my work has been carried out by myself, none of it would have been possible if not for the contribution and support of my supervisor, colleagues, technicians, family, and friends -not to mention the countless individuals that have crossed my path if only for a brief while.As I reflect back on the six years I've dedicated to the pursuit of my doctorate degree, I feel a deep fondness and compassion for those around me that have witnessed my evolution not only as a scientist but as an individual struggling with the ups and downs of adulthood, questioning and pondering the nature of my being as any young person is apt to do.Defying convention and challenging mainstream beliefs, particularly when one is in an industry where facts and data reign supreme over human aspects, has led me down an adventure-filled path of self-discovery, bringing forth some very incredible insights into the nature of humanity and all consciousness.While I realize this text will have limited readership at best, I felt it important to sincerely express the profound gratitude I have for all those that have made a significant contribution to the work presented, for it is not often that I have an opportunity to publically share and honor those that have made such a tremendous impact on my development.A significant effort on the part of my supervisor, Dr. Woong-Kyung Suh, must be acknowledged and thanked first and foremost.As the second graduate student, I understand that it was no easy feat to tame my wild and rebellious ways, as often, my artistic and free-spirited nature would come into conflict with the sterner and more disciplined scientific approach.I am forever grateful for the kindness and patience you've afforded me, even at the expense of your own personal comfort.Your experiences and advice have shed clarity on the many aspects of science that I've questioned over the years, and your encouragement has made all the difference to me in going beyond the expected and not settling for mediocrity.I still remember the initial interview, my first chance to pursue a childhood dream -and the time when you were still working on the bench alongside me and Mat (and the traumatizing mouse bleedings, anecdotes for future graduate students complaining about their animal horror 7.2 Objective 1: Address the role of host B7-H4 in the growth of a transplanted, syngeneic mammary carcinoma model, 4T1 .......
