You arc\nabout to embark on some\nof the most exciting years\nof your life and I certainly\nhope that you are excited\nto begin your collegiate ca-reer\nAs a student, the best\nthing that I can recommend\nto incoming freshman here\nat Saint Rose is to get in-volved.\nYou (or your par-ents)\narc spending so much\nmoney for you to attend\nhere. To get your money's\nworth; all you have to do is\nattend activities and events\non campus. There are so\nmany opportunities to get\ninvolved and everyone\nshould be able to find a club\nthat interests them. If not,\nyou can come see us about\nstarting a new club. We\nwant every student's time\nhere to be fiin and exciting.\nCollege isn't just classes;\nit's an experience. Don't\nlet it pass you by.\nThe Student Association\noversees over 30 clubs on\ncampus. We, as an orga-nization,\nalso meet once\na week to go over student\nconcerns about anything\non campus. We host events\nand try and help faculty\nand administration make\ndecisions with the student\nbody's interests in mind.\nWithout student input, this\nis impossible. That is why\nwe need you.\nAs president, I would like\nto issue a challenge to the\nincoming class of 2014:\nGet involved on campus.\nWhether it is helping\nthe Student Events Board\nplan trips, participating as\na "Big" in the Big Brother\nBig Sister mentor program,\ntrying out for the Girls Next\nDoor or Golden Notes, or\ncoming to the Student As-sociation\nmeetings, just get\ninvolved. For a complete\nlist of clubs, you can visit\nthe Student Association of-fice,\nlocated next to the pool,\nat the beginning of the fall\nsemester. Or, walk through\ncampus on September 7 for\nthe Fall Activities Fair Most\nclubs will be tabling and you\ncan ask current members\nabout each club and what\nthey do.\nIf you would like to join\nStudent Association, there is\na representative training on\nSeptember 7 at 4:30 p.m. in\nthe Standish Dining Rooms.\nOur meetings for the fall se-mester\nwill be held on Tues-days\nat 4:30 p.m., also in the\nStandish Dining Rooms be-ginning\non September 14. Take the time\nto get to know these individ-uals\nwho will serve as teach-ers,\nmentors and coaches to\nyou. Mark Sullivan\nPresident\nSustainability House Saves\nBY ELIZABETH COREY\nFor a group of resident\nstudents at The College\nof Saint Rose, every day is\nEarth Day. A mixture of\nstudents from the College's\nEnvironmental Club and\nresidents who feel a pas-sion\nfor "going green," has\nyielded the school's first\nsustainability-themed cain-pus\nhousing. The end of\nthe school year will mark\nthe house's first full year\nas a sustainable-Hfestyle\nbuilding.\nLast year, members of\nthe Environmental Club\nproposed the idea for a\nSaint Rose campus house\nto be converted into a\nplace where residents\ncould work together with\na common goal of "cutting\nback on water, electricity,\nand waste," according to\nsophomore resident Bren-dan\nPeo. The Childhood/\nSpecial Education major\nhas lived in "the Sustain-ability\nHouse" since Au-gust\nof 2009.\n"The Environmental\nClub came up with the\nidea to live sustainably on\ncampus because it's some-thing\nthat the world as a\nwhole is trying to do," Peo\n//Chelsea Krufier\nThe first self-sustaining on-campus dormitory helps with the reduction of the College's carb(.)n footprint.\nsaid. She was the\nPresident of Spectrum, the African, Latin, Asian, and\nNative American (ALANA) Student Union, for two of\nher years at Saint Rose. She is also a member of the\nALANA Steppers, Late Knight Committee, and the\nALANA is Leadership mentor program. Amanda does\nher work study in the Office of Student Affairs. You\ncan always find Amanda on campus. She is energetic,\nfun-filled, and loud.
