Evolució cronològica, arquitectònica i urbanística del poblat ibèric de Sant Sebastià de la Guarda (Palafrugell, Baix Empordà)

ENG- The archaeological research carried out in this thesis focuses on the chronological, architectural and urban evolution of the Iberian settlement of Sant Sebastià de la Guarda (Palafrugell, Baix Empordà). The data provided demonstrate uninterrupted activity from the ancient Iberian to the late Iberian, specifically from the second half of the late 6th century BC to the first quarter of the 1st century BC. Over the course of these five centuries, three construction phases are identified in which architectural techniques and materials of Iberian tradition are observed. There is sparse information available about the first phase, between the end of the 6th century BC and the middle of the 5th century BC. However, some modest constructions, typical of a small settlement, are identified. As for phase II, between the mid-5th century BC and the mid-4th century BC, it is characterized by the construction of a block of houses that responds to architectural models known and standardized in the Indiget territory. On the other hand, the research process has identified that within the framework of phase III, from the mid-4th century BC, a reform began. It implied a new approach to the distribution of houses, the occupation of space and urban organization. It was a wholly different option from that deployed in phase II and lasted until it was consolidated and expanded between the end of the 3rd century BC and the 2nd century BC. Furthermore, it is an atypical organization of space in the Indiget territory, with no known parallels, since it was deployed from the construction of houses that were always isolated, mostly simple, with a rectangular plan and distributed in two rooms. All of them were surrounded by open spaces, where in some of them combustion structures and silos are documented. The model of the urban plot of phase III of Sant Sebastià is incorporated as a new case for the research of the architecture and urban planning of the settlements of Indigècia. During the late Iberian period, a growth of the settlement in a southerly direction is documented, occupying the entire upper surface of the mountain of Sant Sebastià de la Guarda. The last data of activity is documented in the early years of the 1st century BC
