Résumé
The activity of Pisan illuminators in Florence in the XIV century has been the subject of several studies starting from the suggestions of Maria Grazia Ciardi Dupré Dal Poggetto. However, advancements in the understanding of these relations are hampered by the difficulty in determining whether the manuscripts were made in Florence and there illustrated by Pisan artists or were instead made and decorated in Pisa and subsequently sent to Florence. Little codicological data had been found to support these studies and no documentary evidence existed. This article discusses two episodes of decoration of liturgical manuscripts commissioned by Florentine foundations, the Servite church of the SS. Annunziata and the Carmelite church of S. Maria del Carmine, that can be associated with certitude to Pisan artists active in Florence in the second quarter of the XIV century. The decoration of antiphonary cod. P of the Annunziata can be attributed to Magister Petrus, a Pisan artist residing in Florence in 1331, according to a recently discovered document. The decoration of ms. 570, 580 and 618 from S. Maria del Carmine, now at the Museo di San Marco, is dues to two Pisan artists, an artist of the workshop of Pacino di Buonaguida and a fourth illuminator responsible for the penwork, who can now be identified with Paolo Soldini, a prolific artist registered with the Florentine Art guild around 1338 and active also in the second half of the century. The choirbooks for S. Maria del Carmine were produced under the patronage of the lay confraternities active in the Carmelite church and should be dated in the years 1334-1348. Several additional fragments of choirbooks decorated by the Pisan Magister Petrus and the artists active for S. Maria del Carmine have been identified and they inform us of the further adoption of Florentine iconographic motives and decorative patterns during the continuation of their careers that must have remained linked to the city
