Raising organic beef cattle increased in recent years in France and the vet has a role to play, kno- wing that the specifications of this production involves a particular therapeutic approach, emphasi- zing in particular the use of alternative medicines like phytotherapy, aromatherapy and homeopathy. I have written and, after a brief presentation of the main alternative medicine, a therapeutic guide for large livestock diseases encountered by breastfeeding. Then I also conducted a field survey in my Haute-Saône to interrogate biological suckler breeders about their motivations to convert to this production and their difficulties regarding compliance with the specifications and control the health of animals. The final component of my questionnaire aims to consider the place of veterinary in these organic farms. The results are interpreted on the scale of my sample of 19 farmers, since the existence of certain biases forbids me to infer these conclusions to all breeders of organic beef cattle in the department. Preserving the environment is one of the reasons that motivated almost three quarters (74%) of sur- veyed farmers to convert to organic production. Note that improving the well-being and health of animals is a motivation cited by less than half (47%) of the sampled producers. Nearly nine out of ten farmers are generally satisfied with their conversion to organic farming. Concerning the difficul- ties encountered, the control of animal health problem for one quarter (26%) of the breeders and the most commonly encountered diseases are neonatal diarrhea (cited by 47% of respondents), respira- tory disorders in young (cited by 42% of respondents) and parasitism (cited by 37% of respondents). Note that 37% of farmers surveyed said they did not encounter any particular pro- blems. Over half of the sample farmers (53%) consider that the health status of their herd has im- proved since their conversion to organic. Concerning the curative effectiveness of alternative medi- cine, the views of farmers is quite mixed : 47% are generally convinced of their effectiveness while 32% are not. A quarter of the farmers (26%) called his vet less often since his conversion to organic. 62% of farmers, the vet is the main partner of their livestock. Regarding the most common ground of appeal veterinarian, it is a single event (cesarean, matrix inversion ...) 37% of farmers and a di- sease affecting one animal for 26% of them . Twenty-one percent of farmers interviewed see their veterinarian that during prophylaxis.
