Abstract The reduction of costs and development time in automotive industry, particularly in infotainment cockpit electronics, is crucial for maintaining North America automotive industry competitiveness. Today the region faces increasing competition from the Asia Pacific countries, particularly China which benefits from large scale production facilities, cheaper raw material suppliers and advanced manufacturing technologies, these factors enable better costs and shorter development cycles. Given this rapid pace in the globalized world, the North American industry must explore alternatives focused on efficiency to keep as reference in the automotive industry. The authors believe that one strategy to consider involves the design of new and simpler architectures, aided by performance materials. Currently, cockpit electronics rely on complex architectures, multiple control units, and mechanical fixings, which increase both assembly time and material costs. By shifting toward modular designs, manufacturers can reduce system complexity, which facilitates faster integration and easier scalability but also development time. One interesting idea is replacing mechanical joints with adhesives; these changes could offer several advantages, such as increased durability, better impact resistance and improved thermal management. Also, the above changes can potentially increase overall system reliability, which is essential for modern automotive applications. Over the last decade trade tensions between the United States and China have made the material supply chain highly strategic. The world dependence on Asian supply has led different regions to seek greater regional integration in the production of automotive components. One region that has been remarkably successful is our region, with The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), now the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which has played a crucial role in reducing tariffs and facilitating the movement of automotive parts across borders. However, political instability could disrupt these trade agreements, potentially affecting the already fragile competitiveness of the North American automotive industry. To maintain a strong position in the global market the industry must transition from a reliance on trade protections toward a more self-sufficient and efficient production process. One key approach is using locally sourced materials, which not only reduces logistical costs and delivery times but also mitigates risks associated with global supply chain disruptions. This paper presents a comprehensive review on emerging technologies about automotive electronics, analyzing their potential to reduce development costs and time while keeping all essential requirements for modern automotive industry. The findings provide insights into how strategic design and material innovations can strengthen the region in the face of increasing global competition.
