発展途上国における女性を取り巻く諸課題に関する研究

発展途上国の女性に関する問題に取り組む研究課題として、大別して二つの研究に取り組んだ。 第一に、宗教と乳幼児の男女比の関係についての研究を行った。大多数の宗教において人を殺めることやネグレクトすることは禁忌されている。にも拘らず様々な背景から、乳幼児の男女比が正常ではないといった状態が生じている。つまり、男の子の比率が生物学的なそれとは乖離して高いということが多くの発展途上国で見受けられる。では、宗教信仰の熱心さと乳幼児の男女比の間には関係があるのか、あるとしたらどのような関係が見出されるのかについての研究を行った。その目的のために、ベトナムの国勢調査の全数データと、宗教施設の全数調査データを用いた実証分析を行った。結果、宗教を熱心に信仰しているような家計・コミュニティーほど、男女比は正常に近いという結果を得た。よって、宗教というものが女性の出生時点からすでに影響を及ぼしているということが明らかになった。この研究はアジア成長研究所のワーキングペーパーとして発刊された。 第二に、ミャンマーの大都市ヤンゴンの商業的売春婦の経済行動や価値観などを詳細な調査を実施し、収取したデータの分析を進めている。現地協力者の多大な協力の下、約400名のサンプルを集めることが出来た。このような調査は、売春行為がそれを行う女性にとって違法行為であるがゆえに、地元の協力者なしには実現しえない。その調査ではリスク愛好度を把握する質問など、これまでの同様の研究では試みてこられなかった独自の視点が盛り込まれている。貧困と商業的売春行為は深いつながりがあるとともに、途上国に存在する根深い問題である。目下、いくつかの仮説を立てて、簡単なミクロモデルを想定し、それに沿って実証分析を進めているところである。近いうちに論文として体裁を整え、まずはワーキングペーパーとして発刊する予定である。 As research agenda to address issues related to women in developing countries, I worked on two studies. First, I conducted a study on the relationship between religion and the gender ratio of infants. Killing or neglecting people is contraindicated in most religions. In spite of that, there is a situation in which the gender ratio of infants is not normal due to various reasons. In other words, many developing countries find that the proportion of boys is far higher than biological ones. Then, I conducted a study of whether there was a relationship between the zeal toward religions and the gender ratio of infants, and what, if any, relationships were found. To that end, I conducted an empirical analysis using the census data of Vietnam and the census data of religious facilities. As a result, the ratio of male and female was closer to normal for households and communities that religiously worshiped them. Thus, it became clear that religion had already influenced women from birth. This study was published as a working paper of the Asian Growth Research Institute. Second, a detailed survey on the economic behavior and values ​​of commercial prostitutes in Yangon, a major city in Myanmar, was conducted and I have been analyzing the collected data. With the great cooperation of local collaborators, we were able to collect about 400 samples. Such investigations cannot be achieved without local collaborators, because prostitution is illegal for women to do so. The survey incorporates unique perspectives, such as questions about risk appetite, that have not been attempted in similar research to date. Poverty and commercial prostitution are deeply linked and are a persistent problem in developing countries. At present, some hypotheses have been established, simple micro-models have been assumed, and empirical analysis is proceeding along with them. I plan that some papers using the data first will be published as working papers.
