Abstract
In den 1950er Jahren begann Kanada mit seinen ersten Entwicklungshilfeinitiativen. Die kanadische Entwicklungshilfe (Canadian Official Development Assistance, ODA) spielte neben Kanadas Rolle bei Peacekeeping-Missionen eine bedeutende Rolle in der Außendarstellung Kanadas als eines der großzügigen und gestaltenden Akteure auf der internationalen Bühne. Um den kanadischen Bemühungen um Entwicklungshilfe ein größeres Gewicht zu verleihen und diese fest in die Administration zu verankern, wurde unter Premierminister Trudeau die Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) gegründet.
