Abstract
El prestigioso simbolismo de distinci?nf rivalidad y jerarqu?a que el gesto de regalar con liberalidad encierra es un aspecto del Poema de mio Cid que merece un mayor estudio. Es un hecho bastante reconocido por la antropolog?a cultural que la excesividad en el regalo tambi?n representa un gesto abierto de competencia y agresividad en sociedades cuyos miembros rivalizan por adquirir, acumular y conservar signos de diferenciaci?n jer?rquica y prestigio personal. A lo largo de este ensayo, demuestro que tales contextos hist?rico-sociales (propicios a tal interpreta ci?n de rivalidad y competencia en el comportamiento de los personajes del poema) caben perfectamente en la obra dadas las condiciones pol?ticas, sociales y econ?micas vigentes en al-Andalus en la ?poca hist?rica que el Poema se propone reflejar.
