Abstract
The author makes an attempt to systematize the information concerning the process of formation of customs staffed on full time basis in Russia in the first quarter of the XVIII century. The research is based on the materials of the business correspondence of St. Petersburg port customs which is stored in the collections of Russian State Archives of Ancient Acts (Moscow) and Russian State Historical Archives (St. Petersburg).
