Abstract
Concept en émergence depuis la fin des années 1980, le journalisme public peut être défini comme une approche selon laquelle les médias doivent jouer un rôle beaucoup plus actif au sein de leur milieu : 1) en apportant des solutions concrètes aux problèmes quotidiens des citoyens ; 2) en incitant ces derniers à s'impliquer davantage dans la vie démocratique. Les auteurs procèdent ici à une étude de cas sur la campagne « Spécial Emploi » organisée au printemps 1996 par le quotidien d'information générale Le Soleil de Québec pour tenter de vérifier dans quelle mesure — et avec quelles limites — cette opération s'inscrit dans la logique du journalisme public. Ils cherchent par ailleurs à établir des liens entre cette nouvelle approche et des courants théoriques comme celui de « la responsabilité sociale des médias », « la participation démocratique des citoyens » et « la gestion des enjeux sociaux par les entreprises ».
