Abstract
Le Dernier frère, publié aux Editions de l’Olivier en août 2007, est le roman le plus récent de Nathacha Appanah, jeune auteure Indo-Mauricienne. Il a remporté le Prix de la FNAC en 2007, le Prix Culture et Bibliothèques Pour Tous en 2008, le Prix des lecteurs du magazine français L’Express en 2008, aussi bien que le Prix des librairies du Québec en 2008. Le roman se concentre sur le destin des minorités souffrantes, des enfants victimes, de prolétaires exploités et de peuples humiliés qui se rejoignent dans la même situation de déportation et d’exil, presque tous victimes de situations qui les dépassent. En premier lieu, il s’agit du sort d’un millier d’émigrants juifs partis d’Europe centrale en 1940, refoulés par les autorités britanniques de Palestine et internés en prison à l’Ile Maurice pendant toute la durée de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale.
