REHABILITATION OF THE LITTLE CURRENT SWING BRIDGE HIGHWAY 6 AT MANITAOULIN ISLAND, ONTARIO
Bibliographic record
Abstract
The Algoma Eastern Railway swing bridge at Little Current was constructed in 1913 part of a 140 km rail link from Sudbury to Little Current linking Manitoulin Island to mainland Ontario, the only land link between Manitoulin and the mainland. In 1999, a contractor was retained to design the modernization and automation of the operation of the 86 year old structure because of concerns about its operational reliability. Since the bridge was listed in the Ontario Heritage Bridge program, the operation, outward appearance and color had to be maintained. This paper describes the sophisticated design that allowed complete operation of the bridge by the push button. Also discussed is the mechanical rehabilitation that replaced the main and wedge drive systems, and a state of the art computer control that replaces the manual levers and clutches that originally controlled the extensive system of shafts and gears transmitting power to the main ring gear and end wedges. The old gasoline drive engines have been replaced with electric motors. Today the bridge operates as smooth glass.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
