Abstract
Le present article se penche sur des aspects choisis du ministere des eveques consideres comme les principaux dirigeants des dioceses, eux-memes concus comme des communautes sacramentelles de croyants. L'A. souleve des questions theologiques et canoniques au sujet de la direction episcopale au sein de l'Eglise locale. De quel genre de direction episcopale a-t-on besoin pour s'attaquer de facon responsable aux problemes auxquels se voit confrontee l'Eglise d'aujourd'hui? L'article souligne certains facteurs correlatifs qu'il considere comme pertinents a un gouvernement episcopal responsable au plan ecclesial. A titre de point de reference cle, l'A. se sert du Directoire pour le ministere pastoral des eveques de 2004, Apostolorum succcessores, qu'il compare sur certains points au directoire precedent de 1973, Ecclesiae imago.
