Forte de ses dimensions politiques, économiques et culturelles, la globalisation pénètre l’éducation où elle transporte ses paradoxes et se manifeste sous une double tension : d’une part, elle offre son univers d’informations et son vertigineux espace communicationnel pour enrichir l’apprentissage ; mais d’autre part, elle resserre sur l’école l’étau de l’économisation du monde. La globalisation influence les politiques publiques relatives à l’institution scolaire et c’est dans cette mouvance que l’éducation pour le développement durable s’est imposée comme cadre de référence pour la prise en compte du rapport à l’environnement. Un tel contexte pose un ensemble de défis aux acteurs de l’éducation relative à l’environnement : en particulier et à contre-courant, poursuivre la construction critique de fondements pour l’action éducative afin d’orienter les choix curriculaires, et développer une pédagogie de l’appartenance et de l’engagement, apte à résoudre de façon féconde les tensions entre identité et altérité, entre globalité et localité, deux couples de forces caractéristiques de la globalisation.
