The article concerns the problems of establishment and development of civic upbringing in Canada. Stages of formation of different approaches to the idea of civic upbringing in American society with taking into account its ethnical inhomogeneity and variety in views on the education system in whole in different historical periods in different provinces of Canada are presented in it. It is considered the changes in the understanding of the civic upbringingand interest to this sphere of upbringing, analysis of the relations of social demands and their influence on the school policy in the context of forming future citizens of the country.
