Prevalence and associated factors of hand dermatitis among pottery and ceramics workers in Ratchaburi province

Abstract
Introduction: This study aimed to find out the prevalence and associated factors of hand dermatitis among pottery and ceramics workers in Ratchaburi province. Method: The study design was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Four hundred and fifteen pottery and ceramics workers in Ratchaburi province were included. The subjects were interviewed with questionnaires modified from Nordic occupational skin questionnaire. They were then examined and photographed their hands. Result: The prevalence of hand dermatitis among pottery and ceramics workers in Ratchaburi province was 48.7%. Statistically significant factors associated with hand dermatitis were male gender, advanced aging, previous history of metal allergy, work division, skin exposure during manual contact with molding clay and decorating clay. Discussion and Conclusion: The prevalence of hand dermatitis was high among pottery and ceramics industry. Occupational health management should be provided in the workplace and skincare knowledge should be available for the workers.
