Review and interpretation of the public avalanche bulletin is recommended by numerous how-to avalanche safety manuals and recreational avalanche education programs. Accomplishing the learning objectives of Canadian Introductory Recreational Avalanche Course and U.S. Level 1 avalanche courses are constrained by practical, but short time frames. This poster presents a methodology using icons to form storyboards that assist the learner in understanding and retaining the bulletin’s messages and guiding the development of a personal travel plan.
