Abstract
La novela Aves sin nido (1889), de la peruana Clorinda Matto de Turner, propo ne mostrar al lector el sufrimi'ento del indio andino y las medidas posibles para mejorar su situation; por consiguiente, convoca al lector como agente de action benefica en pro del indio yde la nation peruana. A pesar delproposito expltcito de la novela, aqui se arguye que las estrategias ejemplares en Aves sin nido funcionan en contrapunto a las lecciones propuestas: el texto emplea un discurso de maternidad insuficiente y ejemplos negativos de la mediation inefectiva, bs cuales evidencian la psicosis (en terminos lacanianos) de los crioUos liberates con respecto a la realidad andina y, por b tanto, la imposibilidad de realizar los cam bios sociales que se esperan. Aves sin nido presenta una perspectiva profunda mente negativa hacia la intervention del criotto (liberal) urbano en el choque de culturas entre bs indiosy el Peru modernizador, y de este modo revela una ambi valencia fundamentalsobre elpapelpaternalista delcriolb ilustrado.
