Abstract
This article, part of a special issue on grain transportation, studies the history, rationale, and use of shuttle trains for transporting grain in the U.S. The article examines the debate over shuttle trains, noting that efficiency is viewed as one of their biggest advantages, while rates and pricing differentials remain contentious issues for shippers. Focus is on the shuttle train operations by BNSF and Canadian Pacific (CP).
