Abstract
Pour repondre a la demande de producteurs et d'industriels, un programme de recherche de sources naturelles de geraniol a debute en 2001. La comparaison de trois especes du genre nord-americain Monarda a permis de mettre en evidence les qualites du clone «Morden #3», un chemotype riche en geraniol (> 90%). Cet hybride triploide developpe par la Station de recherche de Morden (Manitoba, Canada) s'est revele adapte aux conditions pedoclimatiques de la zone de montagne en Suisse. Il est rustique, a une bonne productivite en matiere seche (4-5 t/ha) et une teneur elevee en huile essentielle (3,5-6%). De recents travaux ont permis de caracteriser partiellement et de quantifier l'extrait hydroalcoolique de la drogue contenue dans les feuilles. Celles-ci contiennent des derives de l'acide cafeique, dont entre autres l'acide rosmarinique (1,7% dans les feuilles seches) et des flavonoides.
