Este art?culo es un estudio informado por lecturas psicoanal?ticas y kristevianas que explora la junci?n de lo materno en la p?mera novela de Elena Garro, Los recuerdos del porvenir. Aunque Elena Garro es una de varias escritoras que in terrogan el papel de lo materno en sus obras, se distingue de ellas al acercarse a este problema desde la perspectiva de la identificaci?n. Espec?ficamente, Garro confronta a su lector con dos tipos distintos de identificaci?n con la experiencia materna. Por una parte, la novela dramatiza un tipo de identificaci?n fetichista que deviene en una subjetividad melanc?lica identificaci?n que muchas veces se concibe como masculina. Por otra parte, la novela tambi?n describe (y hasta representa) una identificaci?n incestuosa que es catastr?fica para una subjetivi dad que se concibe como femenina. Finalmente, y m?s all? de relatarnos el doble y terrible papel de h identificaci?n materna, la novela sugiere el papel esperan zador que juega el personaje de la sirvienta en este proceso, ya que ella ocupa un espacio mediador que interrumpe ambos tipos de identificaci?n.
