Abstract
Le terme grammaticalisation, inventé par le linguiste français Antoine Meillet, fait référence au processus par lequel un mot perd sa valeur sémantique et son autonomie syntaxique pour devenir un élément grammatical. Les idées de Meillet ont suscité de grands débats théoriques parmi les linguistes du vingtième siècle quant à la relation entre l’évolution des langues et l’acquisition. Dans le présent travail, nous analysons le concept de grammaticalisation à la lumière des principaux développements en théorie linguistique du vingtième siècle, afin de mieux comprendre son utilité dans la description de l’évolution des langues.
