Abstract
Ce texte s'intéresse à étudier le rapport, dans le Québec contemporain, entre démocratie, souveraineté et identité. Le projet souverainiste est premièrement interprété en regard de la façon dont on a interprété la modernité dans le Québec des années 1960. Dans un deuxième temps, le procès d'individualisation sert de point d'appui pour comprendre les transformations identitaires et ses effets sur la démocratie et le projet souverainiste dans le Québec des années 1980. Sous quelles conditions l'arrimage entre le désir communautaire (identité) et le désir démocratique (autonomie) est-il susceptible de se réaliser? À travers le parcours du projet souverainiste québécois, l'auteur cherche ici à mieux comprendre la complexité des liens, au sein de la modernité démocratique, entre démocratie et identité.
