L’augmentation de la fréquence et de l’intensité d’événements climatiques extrêmes tel que des vagues de chaleur automnales, résultant du réchauffement climatique, est susceptible d’entraîner des modifications de plusieurs facettes de l’écologie de l’arpenteuse de la pruche (Lambdina fiscellaria Guen.), un important insecte défoliateur. Cette étude vise à déterminer l’influence de la plante hôte, de la provenance géographique des populations et des vagues de chaleur au cours de la phase d'acclimatation au froid sur la biologie hivernale de l’arpenteuse de la pruche. Nos résultats démontrent que les contenus des œufs en tréhalose, glucose et mannitol sont significativement influencés par les vagues de chaleur et par l’origine de la population. De plus, la survie hivernale des œufs de l’arpenteuse de la pruche de la population originaire du sud a été négativement affectée par les vagues de chaleur plus intenses alors que celle provenant d’un environnement plus nordique n’a pas été affectée. Cette étude suggère que le métabolisme hivernal des populations établies au sud du territoire québécois sera plus affecté par les vagues de chaleur automnales que celui des populations plus nordiques et pourrait avoir un impact important sur la dynamique des populations de cet important ravageur forestier.
