Abstract
The Faustian principle of action has achieved its highest point in this crisis. Optimists would say it reached its catastrophic point. But at the moment, there are no significant signs of change in an all-consuming society: love, politics, life. Dardot and Laval are right: neoliberal order has penetrated and is here to stay. The crisis, at the moment, will simply have consolidated it; the impotence of politics –with governments committed to this order–, has given it an aura of being irreplaceable. And consumption operates like a culture of resignation. “The consummated union of corporate power and governmental power –wrote Sheldon Wolin– has resulted in an American version of a total system”. All eyes are on the designs of the markets. We are all the market, cynics would say. In other words, no one is responsible for anything: the apotheosis of nihilism.
