Abstract
Se réjouissant de l’expansion de ce débat dans la presse, l’auteur revendique, devant la diversité des styles offerts, le droit d’aimer n’importe quel type de musique produite aujourd’hui. Il se refuse à considérer la musique contemporaine comme la seule grande musique de notre temps, il critique l’équation que font certains entre la complexité d’une oeuvre et sa « grandeur », et rejette le concept de continuité historique invoqué par Isabelle Panneton. Il voit dans la situation actuelle le signe de la fin de l’hégémonie géopolitique et culturelle de l’Europe où l’on a toujours voulu faire du neuf à tout prix. Il met sur le même plan les musiques pour piano de Nino Rota et de Debussy et regrette de ne pouvoir retenir un seul thème des oeuvres de Donatoni.
