Abstract
It is clear that if prostate cancer is not treated at a localized stage, this cancer will remain the second cause of cancer death in men (1). In fact, it was predicted that 37,800 men would die from prostate cancer in the United States in 1999, whereas 43,700 or only 15.6% more deaths were estimated for breast cancer during the same time period. At the present rate, it is estimated that prostate cancer will kill more than 3 million men among the male population currently living in the United States. Thus, prostate cancer is a major medical and social problem in urgent need of a significant improvement in diagnosis and treatment.
