Provincetown Playhouse, juillet 1919 j'avais 19 ansàe Normand Chaurette (Espace Go, 199 L a reconnaissance d'un changement radical dans la dramaturgie québécoise au début des années 1980 est devenu un lieu commun, tout comme les figures de Normand Chaurette et René-Daniel Dubois s'inscrivent, aux yeux de tous, comme celles qui incarnent le mieux ce passage vers un théâtre plus personnel et littéraire.Jean-Pierre Ronfard, pour sa part, est assez souvent identifié comme le créateur du coup d'envoi de cette nouvelle période de création avec la production de Vie et mort du roi boiteux en 1981, bien que certains, tels Jean-CIéo Godin', considèrent qu'il s'agit là d'une attribution partiellement fautive dans la mesure où elle occulte entre autres la création de L'impromptu d'Outremont en avril 1980.De fait, elle occulte aussi les créations respectives de Rêve d'une nuit d'hôpital et de Panique à Longueuil, en janvier et février 1980, de même que celle de Lear en 1977, pièce qui à plusieurs égards peut être considérée comme une annonce du Roi boiteux à Lear de Jean-Pierre Ronfard (Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental, 1977).
