Abstract
Mientras que la cr?tica sobre el Abencerraje se ha centrado en la entre los dos protagonistas masculinos como eje de la historia, este art?culo afirma la importancia fundamental de Jarifa, el personaje femenino, y su papel activo. A partir del concepto de ahomosocialidad desarrollado por Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick para analizar las relaciones triangulares entre dos hombres y una mujer en la literatura inglesa, se sostiene que el personaje de jarifa sirve para cimentar el tipo de tratamiento que se da entre Rodr?guez de Narv?ez y Abindarr?ez. El orden patriarcal establecido por Narv?ez no es, sin embargo, del todo monol?tico ni seguro. El deseo de los personajes desequilibra la aparente armon?a de la historia y socava el mensaje de tolerancia intercultural que la mayor?a de los cr?ticos han aplaudido.
