Abstract
La présente étude expose les grands changements observés au chapitre de la propriété étrangère au Canada ces quarante dernières années. On y utilise plusieurs sources de données complémentaires produites par Statistique Canada afin d'analyser l'importance de la propriété étrangère au Canada. Au cours de cette période de quarante ans, il y a eu d'abord un repli, puis une remontée, des activités menées par les multinationales étrangères au Canada. Le repli survenu au cours de cette période, qui était associé à une réglementation rigoureuse de l'investissement étranger, a pu être observé dans la plupart des secteurs mais a été particulièrement marqué dans le secteur des mines et de l'énergie. La reprise, qui a fait suite à une libéralisation de la réglementation, a également été généralisée, quoique plusieurs secteurs, notamment ceux à vocation scientifique et le secteur de l'énergie, aient fait exception.
