Abstract
L’incendie d’une chambrette dans un entrepôt vétuste à Caracas ouvre cette analyse sur le processus de relégation et de mise en cause morale d’une centaine de familles sinistrées de la catastrophe, nommée localement La Tragedia, qui affecta le Venezuela en décembre 1999. Cette contribution s’inscrit dans une réflexion sur la conjugaison de la violence sociale et institutionnelle avec les biographies et les trajectoires institutionnelles et sociales des sinistrés. Elle est le fruit d’une enquête ethnographique, menée dans les « refuges » des sinistrés de La Tragedia entre 2000 et 2004. La trajectoire des femmes sinistrées interrogées témoigne de la manière dont des facteurs tels que la localisation, l’infrastructure et l’organisation sociopolitique jouent de concert pour produire des conditions de vie d’une vulnérabilité extrême. La fin de la légitimité de la condition de victime d’une catastrophe devient une expérience violente, ancrée dans la vie quotidienne. En voulant contribuer à une anthropologie de la catastrophe, cet article montre comment le rapport à l’État des sinistrés révèle des conditions d’assujettissement marquées par une temporalité différente de celle de l’urgence ainsi que par la fin de la légitimité sociale et politique du statut de victime.
