Abstract
Entre le 29 juillet et le 16 octobre 1944, le capitaine Gaétan Labrosse a accompagné la 3 e armée américaine pendant son avancée en France. Les fonctions du capitaine Labrosse auprès du service des affaires civiles du XX e corps l’ont amené à développer des relations soutenues avec les autorités et la population de plusieurs régions françaises. Les observations qu’il consigne dans le long rapport qu’il rédige en 1946 sont le matériel de base de cet article. Le capitaine Labrosse a passé 20 mois en Europe, entre juillet 1944 et avril 1946, avec des formations américaines et britanniques, mais c’est à la France qu’il consacre les pages les plus éloquentes de son rapport. Malgré la réserve qu’il s’impose, les observations de cet officier canadien-français jettent un éclairage particulier sur cette période cruciale de la Libération de la France.
