La Nappe des Sables Quaternaires est l’une des nappes exploitées par la Sénégalaise Des Eaux (SDE) pour assurer l’alimentation en eau potable de la ville de Dakar et sa banlieue. La pluie étant le seul paramètre de recharge, la hauteur des apports est calculée sous trois scénarii pluviométriques, puis comparée aux prélèvements de la SDE pour connaître la relation Offre/Demande. Les résultats indiquent que la recharge est insuffisante pour assurer une ré-alimentation efficace de la nappe lorsque les précipitations annuelles sont inférieures à la décennale humide. Dans le contexte pluviométrique actuel où le total annuel ne dépasse guère la moyenne régionale, les pompages de la SDE ne font qu’accentuer l’épuisement progressif de la ressource qui est d’origine climatique. Dès lors, une gestion rationnelle des ressources pluviales par des techniques "alternatives" est suggérée pour atténuer la dégradation quantitative et qualitative de la NSQ.
