Au cours des années 1970, la transformation de la rivière La Grande en un vaste complexe hydroélectrique a forcé les Cris et les Québécois du Sud à établir un dialogue quant à l’aménagement de ce cours d’eau et à son devenir. Si la relation a été ponctuée de conflits et d’inégalités, elle a toutefois mené les partenaires à se reconnaître mutuellement et à s’exprimer sur la place qu’occupe la rivière dans les liens de sociabilité, les échanges économiques et les récits identitaires de chaque peuple. Dans le contexte d’une collaboration qui se serait idéalement accrue depuis La Paix des braves, ce travail a pour but d’explorer la pertinence de l’histoire environnementale comme outil d’harmonisation interculturelle entre les territorialités autochtone et eurogène. En comparant deux sites clés le long de la rivière La Grande (Uupichun et LG-2), leur production et leur transformation à travers le temps grâce au travail humain, je propose de concevoir l’historique environnemental du Québec dans une perspective d’échange et de continuité Nord-Sud.
