Abstract
Les pratiques de l’animation culturelle placent, selon le contexte, les citoyens à la fois au coeur des processus d’appropriation de la culture légitime et d’expression culturelle autonome. Liée aux perspectives de démocratisation culturelle, la médiation culturelle est centrée sur l’élargissement des publics et la transmission de la culture. Inscrite dans la logique de la démocratie culturelle, la médiaction culturelle se tourne plutôt vers la reconnaissance identitaire des minorités et le renouvellement de la culture. La mise en oeuvre de ces deux processus répond d’une double exigence démocratique, mais plonge les animateurs dans un rapport complexe aux dirigeants politiques, aux institutions culturelles et aux populations qui suscite une interrogation d’ordre éthique et politique sur leur mission.
