Abstract
Les oeuvres d’Exquemelin et de Lahontan sont importantes aussi bien pour l’histoire des idées que pour l’évolution de l’image de l’Amérique vers la fin du xviie siècle. Toutes deux s’inscrivent dans le sillage de la colonisation et portent en elles, chacune à sa manière, une contestation des valeurs européennes dominantes à travers deux figures mythiques de l’égalitarisme social et politique : le Flibustier et le Sauvage philosophe. Après avoir obtenu un succès retentissant à leur époque, elles se sont par la suite perdues dans la légende qu’on a construite autour d’elles. Ce ne sont pas les textes en tant que créations linguistiques originales qui seront étudiés ici, mais l’histoire complexe de leur édition.
