Abstract
En este artículo se exponen el contexto histórico y las transformaciones teóricas que dieron lugar al reencuentro de la historia y la sociología norteamericanas, durante el cuarto de siglo posterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El cruce entre ambas disciplinas se dio, principalmente, en la nueva historia social y la sociología histórica, que surgieron entre 1960 y 1980. En el primer apartado del trabajo abordamos el proceso de institucionalización de la historia y la sociología antes de 1940, para entender la rápida expansión y especialización de los dos campos de conocimiento híbridos en las dos décadas siguientes. En segundo lugar, narramos los cambios disciplinarios que acercaron a los historiadores norteamericanos a la teoría social. Por último, explicamos los intereses, visiones y problemas que orientaron históricamente a los estudios sociológicos.
