Une perte d’attractivité du métier enseignant au secondaire — voire des « pénuries » d’enseignants — se font sentir dans de nombreux contextes européens. Alors que ce « malaise » des enseignants du secondaire est associé le plus souvent à la dévalorisation de la profession ou aux évolutions de leurs conditions d’emploi, nous soulignerons, à partir d’une enquête belge, que l’insatisfaction professionnelle des enseignants est aussi liée au cœur de leur métier, et aux aspects du métier qu’ils valorisent le plus, le travail avec les élèves par exemple. Autrement dit, la perte d’attractivité du métier enseignant trouve une partie de ses origines dans l’évolution du travail enseignant et n’est pas seulement liée aux conditions salariales ou au prestige extérieur de la profession.
