Este artículo presenta datos originales sobre el proceso de reorganización del trabajo y de la producción en siete fábricas de la industria automotriz en México. Basándose en los trabajos fundadores de Crozier y Friedberg, pretende demostrar que la mundialización no tiene un efecto sobre-determinante en los actores, sobre todo en la capacidad de acción de los sindicatos. Las realidades locales son, desde nuestro punto de vista, mucho más complejas, particularmente a raíz de la autonomía de la que disponen los actores frente a las reglas impulsadas por la nueva economía mundializada. Dicha perspectiva teórica lleva a prestar una atención particular a las dinámicas locales, sobre todo a los recursos de poder de los actores y a las imposiciones a las que se enfrentan.
