Abstract
Féru de littérature russe, Paul Morand a été tout spécialement marqué par sa lecture de Dostoïevski. Si Gogol, Tourgueniev et Tolstoï l’ont ramené vers la tradition du réalisme balzacien, l’auteur du Journal d’un écrivain l’a influencé sur un plan qui dépasse la littérature. À preuve, un essai qui occupe une place discrète dans l’oeuvre de Morand, mais qui constitue un filon de premier ordre : L’Europe russe annoncée par Dostoïevski (1948). Cet article se propose d’examiner l’importance de Dostoïevski à travers le contexte moral dans lequel Morand a élaboré ses grands récits d’après-guerre, tels Le flagellant de Séville et « Le dernier jour de l’Inquisition ».
