Abstract
Différentes estimations du nombre d'homosexuel/les ont été produites par les enquêtes sur les comportements sexuels, dans divers pays, depuis près d'un siècle et, récemment, en lien avec l'épidémie de sida. Cette question du nombre, qui concerne à la fois les homosexuel/les qui y cherchent une force et l'ensemble social qui peut craindre un danger, est plus politique que scientifique. Elle s'articule à la question des " causes " de l'homosexualité et au statut des homosexuel/les comme membres d'un groupe minoritaire, statistiquement et sociologiquement.
