Si les femmes sont de plus en plus nombreuses à pratiquer une activité physique ou sportive, toutes n’accèdent pas à ces pratiques. On peut mettre au jour une persistance des inégalités parmi les femmes. La considération des propriétés sociales des non-pratiquantes montre que celles-ci sont majoritairement non diplômées ou professionnellement non actives. De plus, il s’avère que la condition déterminante de la pratique physique par les femmes demeure le temps. Non la quantité de temps libre mais les usages du temps toujours étroitement imbriqués avec les investissements considérés comme prioritaires. Les processus observés ici sont du même ordre pour toutes les pratiques culturelles : les femmes dont les activités et les préoccupations sont centrées sur le domestique ou la famille ont le moins de probabilités de trouver/prendre du temps pour elles-mêmes.
