Abstract

L’incendie qui détruisit le palais de l’intendant à Québec durant la nuit du 5 au 6 janvier 1713 a laissé des traces durables qui sont parvenues jusqu’à nous sous diverses formes : la production de quatre récits de l’événement par des acteurs de l’époque ; et le dépôt de vestiges architecturaux et de débris qui ont fait l’objet de fouilles archéologiques. Le présent article consiste donc à exposer et discuter les deux sources documentaires issues de cet événement violent et soudain afin de voir en quoi elles nous en apprennent plus sur ce lieu de pouvoir et ceux qui l’ont occupé.
