Abstract
Issu d'une thèse de doctorat soutenue en 2010, cet ouvrage se propose d'analyser à l'échelle de la ville de Lyon le fonctionnement du système municipal napoléonien, dans son insertion au sein de la hiérarchie des pouvoirs et ses jeux d'acteurs, dans sa composition sociale et ses attributions, dans ses réussites comme dans ses limites.La question n'est pas sans importance.Entre septembre 1805 et l'été 1815, Lyon retrouve sa mairie unique (perdue depuis l'an III) et fait la première expérience d'une forme municipale qui aura la vie longue.Par ailleurs, Lyon étant rapidement devenue l'un des décors privilégiés de la mise en scène du régime napoléonien, le relèvement de la seconde ville de l'Empire, sortie affaiblie de la décennie révolutionnaire, s'avère être un enjeu politique de taille.
