Abstract
Le Japon avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale avait une distribution des revenus très inégalitaires, signe de différences de classes importantes. Après la défaite de 1945, l’écart dans les revenus s’est dissipé laissant la place à une pyramide des revenus relativement plate. Cette situation a donné lieu à une vision du Japon comme société sans classe, étant constitué d’une immense classe moyenne. Cependant, les inégalités ont considérablement augmenté après le début de la crise financière en 1990, quand les grandes entreprises ont effectué des mises à pied et ont limité de façon draconienne l’embauche de jeunes salariés à la sortie des écoles et de l’université. Le chômage et la pauvreté ont augmenté. Le Japon de 2013 se retrouve donc avec des inégalités de classes qui s’approchent de celles de l’avant-guerre.
