Abstract
A secção de crime dos noticiários não só é tradicional no jornalismo moderno como diferencia os jornalismos de referência e popular. O regime analítico cartesiano preponderante na racionalidade moderna esquadrinha a realidade de forma vertical e horizontal. O crime é colocado em baixo, como se fosse socialmente irrelevante, e do lado popular, como se as classes dominantes lhe fossem alheias. Os jornalistas cumprem a sua função o melhor que podem; condicionados porém pela especialização das secções e pelos tabus modernos, de que é exemplo o crime. Uma das consequências dessa situação é o tratamento moralista e irrealista da vida, com alheamento das responsabilidades sociais perante as pessoas afectadas pela criminalização, branqueando as responsabilidades dos interesses dominantes no mundo do crime. Tais constrangimentos estruturais à liberdade de expressão devem ser explicados com recurso à crítica dos efeitos práticos do uso das teorias sociais, também elas limitadas nas suas análises cartesianas.
